ABOUT ME

My Career

I hold a Certificate of Dress Design and a Diploma of Advanced Fashion Design and Technology.

After a career in Fashion for over 20 years in everything from Corporate Wear (both women and Menswear), Children’s Wear (I had my own label), Bridal wear, formal clothing, resort wear and retail Management, I went on to achieve a Certificate in Assessment and Workplace Training and a Certificate in Training and Assessment to become a Fashion Design teacher for over 9 years at MSIT, SCIT and TNQIT.

I continually furthered my studies with courses in advanced colour theory, application of fabric techniques and Millinery. I was also heavily involved with the running of the graduation student fashion parades and ran external courses in patternmaking and millinery.

I loved helping to motivate and educate people to achieve their dreams and still run into past students who let me know what they are achieving in the fashion industry. Some of my students have forged ahead to run very successful businesses.

How it All Started

I have always loved fashion ever since I can remember. I was born and raised in Brisbane, Australia. My Mother was a fantastic sewer and often created some amazing clothing for me to wear (and my Barbie). Things were different in the 60’s and 70’s. There were several mainstream shops and fewer boutiques which offered limited choices to the average shopper, so many women learnt to sew to get what they wanted from their wardrobe. Today our choice is the best it has ever been and the fashion world is at our fingertips.

I had several Aunties who could also design and sew and my older cousins owned several trendy boutiques in New South Wales. I used to love going to visit and they would let me work with them, allowing me to get an appreciation for fashion. I learnt to sew from around the age of ten. I used to often design my own outfits and mum would help me to sew them. I enjoyed the sewing/pattern making side of Home Economics in high school and decided to further my studies in fashion.

With the right advice, anyone can create their own unique style.

As Coco Chanel once said...

“Fashion changes – but Style endures”

My Life So Far

I am the proud Mum of two amazing Boys. I can truly appreciate the challenge of work/life balance, and understand the changes that can occur in a woman’s career, the way they view themselves and their body goes through after starting a family.

We are all our own harshest critics, and we all need to learn to be kinder to ourselves. With having kids, I volunteered my time and became the secretary of our P&C for many years, organised fetes and parades plus designed and implemented a new sports uniform for their school.

More importantly to me, I ran a program for young girls (year 6&7) who were identified as having low self esteem or were being bullied. I enjoyed fostering self confidence in these girls and watched them grow into amazing young women over the course of the program. I truly wished there were programs like this when I was younger as I was bullied myself at school, which is why these types of programs hold special value to me. There were always kisses and hugs all round at completion of the program and I often got just as much out of it that my special girls did. We all need value each other through communication, kindness and encouragement.

After helping my Husband in our business part time over the last 10 years whilst still working with fashion related projects, I have decided to move forward with my passion for Styling. I have recently completed a stylist course to update my skills with The Professional Styling Academy. I have worked closely with wonderful clients of all ages and backgrounds, and with special needs over the years, taking into account their individual lifestyles and budgets.
